Support TreeFolks and join the fun as we Keep Austin Rooted!

Join us for a family-friendly picnic featuring local brews from Live Oak Brewing Company, German delicacies by The Black Forest, live music from Rumbullion, and the long-awaited (re)launch of the Austin Tree of the Year Awards!

TreeFolks’ 2022 Keep Austin Rooted Picnic is a community gathering celebrating the end of another successful planting season and recognizing our collective commitment to bringing back the beauty, protection and bounty that native trees provide. This season, TreeFolks gave out over 4,500 free trees to Austin residents and planted over 70,000 trees in 6 Central Texas counties - made possible by the hard work and generous support of people like you.

The celebration will take place under the beautiful shade of Austin’s renowned live oak trees and will feature live music by Rumbullion, a dance performance by Ventana Ballet, a children’s book reading, tree ID hikes, McKinney Falls State Park's bug safari, axe throwing by The Black Axe Company, and the re-launch of the Austin Tree of the Year Awards. Authentic German food will be supplied by The Black Forest food truck alongside delicious brews from our hosts, Live Oak Brewing Company.

Austin author Samantha M. Clark will be at the picnic to do a live reading of her book, Arrow, about a young boy's fight to protect his rainforest home when it's threatened by machines from the arid outside world, told from the point of view of the forest's Guardian Tree. Copies of Arrow will be provided by local Austin indie bookstore BookPeople and available for purchase at the picnic.

TreeFolks is on a mission to combat the loss of tree canopy & fight climate change by planting another million trees in Central Texas. With each planting event, community gathering, and fundraising season, we move one step closer to our goal of expanding, nurturing, and protecting our urban tree canopy. One tree at a time, TreeFolks is building community and protecting our trees.

The Keep Austin Rooted Picnic is presented by H-E-B with generous support from Mr. Richard F. Craig, Noble Oak, contributions from Pioneer Wealth Management and Heritage Tree Care, and with our friends from Assurance Financial. Proceeds from the picnic will go to support TreeFolks’ regional reforestation work and tree canopy equity program.
